Guys: Would you ever date a girl who doesn't drink alcohol?

I'm 26 and completely quit drinking for personal reasons about 3 years ago. Alcoholism runs in my family, and I just got to the point where I was getting out of control and blacking out a lot. So I decided to quit while I was ahead. I still love to go out and have a good time, and I don't care if other people drink, it's just a personal choice. I'll have a diet coke or a red bull. I'm at an age where people want to meet for drinks or happy hour, which is cool with me, I'd just choose to drink something non-alcoholic. But I worry that this holds me back from getting involved with someone. I know if they care that much about me drinking or not, then it's not worth it. But I just wanted to get some opinions from guys who AREN'T my close friends. I'm fun and cute, I just choose to drink diet coke with my hot wings! Thoughts?

Well I drink and a lot of my friends drink regularly in social situations. So if you could handle that awkwardness I don't see a problem. If we could compromise on the situations that would obviously come up then we should be fine. I respect your reasons for giving up drinking. Alcoholism runs in my family as well and I quickly had to learn how to control my actions to prevent from getting to extremes. If I first met you and I saw you not drinking I would of course ask why and would worry that you couldn't let go and have fun. I know people can have fun while being sober, I was one of them for a long time, but some people obviously let go more when they drink a little. A friend of my family would go out for drinks and would pull the waiter aside and tell him he wanted just coke and not jack and coke when he ordered or he would be the one to go to the bar and get drinks for people. He did it to avoid making the people he was with feel awkward about drinking and to avoid having to really get into the questions that could come up. I think you will find guys that don't mind but you may not find them at bars.

That's a plus! It shows you have grown up and are mature. I don't have to worry about you running around going to bars and getting drunk and passing out in public; I find that behavior appalling. I don't have to worry about you going to parties full of strangers and passing out there either.

Also I only like to get drunk once or twice a year and I don't want any girl trying to persuade me to do so more often than that, because I will most likely refuse and she will get angry over that incredibly stupid reason.

I understand completely where you come from, my father was an Alcoholic. and growing up with him I saw Alcohol as pure disgusting habit! I am 39 now, and I still haven't acquired the taste for any Alcohol. so for you to draw a line. that's to be respected by any man with some common sense! you don't need Alcohol to have fun!

I understand and would actually prefer a girl like you.The ones who spend every weekend getting plastered and seem so incredibly immature are a dime a a dozen.
