He said I'm "kinda" hot?

Been working with this guy for six months. He definitely fits the bill of someone who is WAY out of my league. Handsome, popular and good with the ladies. He's also into a very specific type of girl (so it seems). Either the blonde preppy southern belles or the Kylie Jenner wannabes. I'm not either (I don't wear makeup, I don't dress like that, etc) I've liked him for a while, but never made a move. He's a real flirt, so it's hard to tell if he's into me, since he flirts with just about anyone. We have a decent relationship; always laughing and flirting at work and such. Yesterday he asked me to hang out, but I couldn't because of work. Later on that day, he told me that someone had told him that I liked him. I got nervous, so I played it off as though the rumor wasn't true, and that I wasn't into him. I still don't quite know why he'd ask me that out of the blue. Later on I jokingly asked him out on a date. He went along with it, but I couldn't tell if he was being serious, so I didn't push for an actual date. On his way out of work he stopped to say goodbye to me and when he did, he gently/flirtatious scratched my lower back and left. Next day I find out that he told one of his good guy friends (who's also my friend) that he thought I was "kinda" hot, but to keep it a secret. I figure if he wants to keep it a secret cuz he's either 1) ashamed that he finds me attractive or 2) doesn't want me finding out. So what might all of this mean? Should I make a move?
