Boyfriend won't brush his teeth. Wtf do I do?

I think it's a pretty basic requirement that someone showers and brushes their teeth right? It's just simple cleanliness!

I've been with my boyfriend for about 4 years now and I think he's only brushed his teeth a handful of times in my presence. He stays over at my place 3-5 times a week. He has a toothbrush here but doesn't use it!

When we get ready for bed, he just throws off his clothes and hops in. He doesn't wash his face or brush his teeth. When his breathe gets really really unbearable and I ask him to, he just refuses and tells me he doesn't want to.

Wtf, he's a grown ass man in his 30's and he won't brush his teeth. What am I suppose to do here? It's just gross!

That's so gross. Explain to him that you have more respect for him than to make him smell and taste your bad breath. Explain to him that you need him to take care of himself not just for him but also for you. If after lots of talking he won't see your side and adjust his behavior, I'd say it's a deal breaker and move on, because 1- it's so gross and inconsiderate, and 2- do you really want to be with someone who can't hear you when you have a need, and who won't compromise when something is important to you, and who won't adjust his behavior even the slightest to accommodate your needs or preferences? Those issues go way beyond the grossness of not brushing teeth. Those issues will touch many aspects of your relationship and leave you very unhappy in the long run.

In all honesty that would be a deal breaker for me... oral hygiene is so important - not just for his health but because I don't want to kiss a fuzzy mouth with last weeks chicken cacciatore sticking around.
I wouldn't kiss him - or anything else until he started brushing but this is pretty much the one thing I'm really fussy over

I don't know! His teeth are perfectly fine, they're not falling off or anything. So it doesn't hurt him to brush. He just won't. I've asked him to and told him it's important but he just doesn't care. I don't get it

I honestly think it's due to laziness. He doesn't give me any answer other than 'I'll do it later' or 'I don't want to right now'. And of course he never brushes it later. Lol. It's just so weird! Of all the problems a relationship can have, i would never have guessed mine to be this

My ex was/is like that too. I've noticed that if a man (or a woman) doesn't brush their teeth, or shower often, it usually means they are lazy in almost every aspect of their life (not just personal hygiene).

So eww there's a dude at my work that we use as standard of breath rating. He likes to get really close when he says something to you and I've had to hold down vomit before it's so bad at more than 10 ft. So if one of my buddies has bad breath I'll be like your a quarterdanny Or halfdanny and they run to find gum, candy Or Mouth wash... but y would he refuse, the idea someone is turned off By my breath is mortifying to me. If he refuses basic hygiene what else is he not doing , washing hands after using the restroom? Do you want to start a family with someone who can't take care of them selves. I find it disrespectful that someone your close with or work close to doesn't respect your space enough to at least try and remove the problem.

Maybe he just gets really lazy when he's tired so crashes into bed. If I were you I'd try getting him to brush his teeth earlier while he still has some energy, like right after dinner. Failing that, I'd leave him, smelly breath is gross.

Well I sympathize with both of you. I can understand where he's coming from also as I ABSOLUTELY HATE brushing my teeth. I do it, but I really have to make a conscious effort and FORCE myself to. Lots of times I'll only brush once a day, and I'll admit, some days not at all. I don't know why I hate it so much, I just do, and always have all my life. I'm guessing that he feels the same unless he just doesn't care? He's not the only guy though (look around the internet, some people rarely brush, if ever!). BUT, I have a healthy mouth despite this! I go to the dentist regularly and he tells me my mouth is very healthy. Does your boyfriend go regularly? Hopefully. Yeah, like others have said, I'd just sit down and have a very serious talk with him and let him know how much it bothers you. Refuse to kiss him until he does etc. You can't force him to do it, but maybe he'll make more of an effort?

The health of your mouth relies on the sanity of his. I have seen 3 people get bacterial peoblems in their mouths due to a spouses neglect. One is currently having all their teeth pulled and another suffers not just rotten teeth but constant uti's due to oral with a dirty mouth. If he won't brush you won't... anything... If he neglects his mouth what else does he let slide? You deserve health & happiness... nothing less
