Not in meaning of the word. What I mean is, what is the difference with regards to the person actually meaning it/caring.
I think this is all dependent on the individual. I am a very grateful person, but I almost always say "thanks." It is not meant to be flippant. I never realized anyone would perceive it as anything but sincere until my husband scolded my son for always saying "thanks" instead of "thank you." For me, it is simply a habit.
