What does it mean when a guy sends you a "did you get home safe?" text?

Is this something guys just do for their friends? I've never really had a guy do it before except for this guy and I'm curious if it's just being polite or something else.

If a guy sends you a "did you get home safe?" text he cares about you. It may be just as a good friend. But it shows that he feels protective of you in some way. Now, he may be very gentlemanly and does it because he cares about you as a gentleman. On the other hand, people like that are incredibly rare so I find the idea of him doing it to be polite, a less likely option.

He want's you to know your'e on his mind and think that he's a compassionate, thoughtful person, which he could well be, though he could just be unaware that he's simply being manipulative also. See how long he keeps it up for, should be a fair indication of where It’s coming from.

It depends like I normally use it for new friends or if there is a chance that they might not have gotten there. Like if they are taking a new route or someone new is driving them.
