Why do guys always go back to their crazy ex?

I have a friend with this absolutely horrible girlfriend. His friends, coworkers, and family all don't like her because she's so awful. She's controlling and paranoid. At times he's even confessed to me that he can barely stand her. They break up every so often, but somehow end up back together even though his life is much better when she isn't in it. What keeps drawing him back?

Reasons vary. But usually people like that tend to enjoy the attention of their family and friends by having a nightmare relationship followed by a nasty breakup. Since they're going back to someone familiar, they can already predict the outcome.

it could be the being with her is better than being alone for him. also since he knows her already it's a bit easier to get with her than to find a new relationship which appeals to guys who are lazy in the relationship department

The sex and probably because they connect on a level that he understands. He probably feels like a Savior trying to come to her rescue and save her.

I NEVER, EVER go back. For me, if she breaks it off, or even if I do, it is OVER, DONE, and GONE!!

We would argue and break up for petty issues..
