Is it inappropriate for a married man to hug a female friend if his wife has never met her?

I know it's acceptable for married people to hug friends, but to me it seems shady if the friend is someone the man's spouse has never met. This man and friend have been friends for a couple of years.

I'd also like to point out that said man is not the touchy type from what I'm gathering. It just seems off. Am I reading too much into it?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This wasn't about me. It's a situation I'm seeing unfold between a friend and a guy she's into. I'm worried that she's getting played by this guy and I don't want to see her get hurt, but maybe I'm reading too much into it. It's just not sitting right with me though.

it's not that weird, you are reading more into then you should be. If you are the spouse of the man in question you can tell him how you feel, but honestly, it's just a hug. My best friend's wife hugs people she just met. That is just who she is, he is the same way. it's honestly just hug. Now a lingering hug, that is different, but a hug...

Yes you are being way too possessive a hug is in no way an indicator of anything wrong going on. It just either means that they're close friends or that's just how they show friendship.

No. If it's a genuine friendly hug with nothing emotionally attach I don't see why that would be a problem. People in church hug each other and partners are not around. So does that mean they want each other? I'm sure a lot of them have pure intentions.

nah I hug all my friends, one of them being a man in his 40s who's married. I've never met his wife but he talks very affectionately about her and I would never view him that way anyway.

If it's not family it's. Hug are very personal (in my country) and are only done with close family or best friend.
