He calls me just to fall asleep on the phone with me?

My best guy friend and I have recently been texting and flirting a lot more. We've always had a flirtationship, but it's never been like this before. I don't know if it's just lust or not. However, we've been talking on the phone every night and like we'll talk on the phone (late at night) and then he has to go back to work. But then he'll call me later just to sleep on the phone with me. Like he's not tired, and then he falls asleep. He just calls so that he can sleep. He usually falls asleep in like two minutes haha. So what is the meaning of this. Why would he do this?
