Why does he text me when he knows I'm asleep?

Question

I don't know why he does this. It will be 3-4 hours until I'm awake. We live in different time zones and he absolutely knows what time it is here. 
It wakes me up when I forget to silence his tone. Is he needy or something? Just want to see if I will respond right when I wake up? He also always texts me at night when I'm home from work and just want to relax.

I send messages to people late at night, and don't think anything of it since I know they won't see them for a while. I also get messages from people when I am asleep and don't think anything of it, because I set my phone to silent. If you are going to sleep next to your phone, it is assumed you are going to have it on silent.

You are reading too much into his actions. It seems like you are trying to find a problem with him. Sounds like you might be wanting to break up, or start a fight with him and are looking for an excuse.

probably just awake and figures he'll text you. I assume that he doesn't plan on waking you up.

if you have a problem with it tell him. "hey sometimes you text me when I'm asleep and if I forget to turn off the tone it wakes me up. could you not text me in the night?"

or just turn off the tone

If its just a text maybe they are just last minute things on his mind or he wants you to wake up to them... I don't know but if its a constant thing or several messages I think that is rude... lol being blunt here he knows your time difference and probably has an idea of your schedule. So he should be a little more considerate and you should be more assertive since its bothering you. If you don't want to confront the issue you should just be more mindful about putting your phone on silent or not sleeping next to it.

You should be happy he messages you while you're asleep... It just goes to show that he's thinking about you and really cares. If it bothers you that much, I suggest telling him to please stop. Maybe he forgets sometimes about the time difference. I've done that before. You don't have to answer. Don't let it bother you so much.

He's probably bored, or just wants to leave a message when there's no expectation of you replying right away.  Although your last question seems to indicate you don't want him texting you.
