The drunk “I love you”?

How can a guy friend get away with saying “i love you” and play it off as being very drunk? I have been extremely drunk over the years and I would never ever say this to someone randomly if I didn’t mean it. I can’t imagine it’s that different for guys and it’s just an excuse.

LMAO! haha, to be honest I think guys are even willing to tell their toilet that they love them when they're drunk. I know when I've been all drunk out with the guys there's nothing but love going around. Just understand that there is a love that he feels towards you, otherwise he wouldn't say it at all. Now what level of love, like good friend or more than friends, I couldn't tell you but I would just go with it and realize you can't take it too seriously. I laugh because I've done it all my friends have done it and I'm almost positive I may have told the toilet that I loved it before.

It sounds like he's either being stupid or he's not ready for a relationship. But he only "gets away with it" because you let him. Obviously he's denied it, just let him know you're not okay to joke about that and maybe even hang out with him less if he does thoughtless things like this. It's okay to have boundaries for friends *and* partners.

Well based on his exact words, I wouldn't fret about it. "I love you" sounds simply like he has strong positive feelings for you and they mean he loves you as a friend. Now, if he said, "I'm in love with you", that's when I would be worried. That clearly shows he has romantic feelings for you. Even if the person is drunk, unconscious real feelings become conscious during drunkenness.

I literally walked out of a pub once. Stopped a guy walking by on the street. Put my hand on his shoulder looked him dead in the eye and said I was madly in love with him and if he wanted to get married.
