Why does he always call me nerd and keep contacting me?

I have a guy friend who always texts me,"Nerd", "Nerd alert!", "Hey nerd", or "What r u up to nerd?" as his 1st texts to me. In the past he said that he liked me and thought I was sexy, but when we were hanging out and I started liking him too and got feelings for him, he backed off. He knew I liked him because I told him. He started blowing hot and cold and confusing me too much. The last time we were supposed to hang out, he canceled on me last minute. We made plans again only for him to stand me up. I told him that he was a jerk and that I felt hurt, rejected, and like he didn't care about me or hurting my feelings because of how he stood me up like that. I said that I didn't need anyone in my life like that and that I wouldn't bother with him anymore. I decided to give up on him and deleted his number from my phone. Every 5 days he hits me up with a, "Hey nerd" text. No, I don't hold any false hope that he's genuinely interested in or wants to be with me. I just don't get why he keeps contacting me. He knows that I liked him. He rejected me. I said that I didn't want him in my life anymore so why does he keep texting? Is he playing some kind of game?
