Why is he constantly messaging me?

I’m speaking with this guy who lives in the US. He added me as a Facebook friend and we have a few mutual friends, because he is related to some friends I met on holiday years ago. We live in different countries but he messages me every day, and replies to my stories and love heart reacts to my photos too. We have been chatting for up to a year now on Facebook and he writes very long messages, but it’s confusing, does he just want a pen pal? Why is he always messaging me even though we live in different countries?

Some people do just genuinely like staying in touch with others from across the globe. Its nice to keep up and be in the know about people who you likes lives.

I have a few people who I have met from other countries and still keep in touch with them myself.

I'm sure if he had an ulterior motive it would have shown by now.
