Guys hug and hand placement?

I have a guy friend. He hugged me to say goodbye and his hand position was on my lower waist. I was surprised for a second.. am I reading too much? What does it mean?

These days, it is very uncomfortable and awkward for a guy when hugging a woman because we can't be sure what we "should" do or where we "should" touch a woman for fear of being "creepy" or being accused of something inappropriate. With that said, he was probably just uncomfortable and wasn't sure how he should hug you, so I wouldn't read anything into his hand placement.
