Does hand placement actually mean anything when it comes to guys hugging a girl?

Like a hand on the shoulder vs around your shoulder or something.

This is something that I’ve heard not only while growing up but also from a couple of my friends just recently and I’m curious to know your thoughts. Please feel free to use examples/elaborate.

So how did he do it

So I took a picture of him and his friend and he went “ok now I want a picture with you.” I was fine with it and I thought we were probably just going to stand next to each other or something. Then he kinda surprised me by wrapping his arm around my shoulders and kinda grabbed the side of my shoulder if that makes sense. It kinda seems like he does that a lot to anybody he’s friendly with but instead of grabbing their shoulder, he lets his hand hang off of their shoulder.
