It's only flirting when both of you put that meaning into it - I've held hands (and still do) with girls without any flirtatious connotations to it - they know it..those are the closest to me actually.

It's a fantastic feeling really, to be able to be close to people of the other sex without any other meanings to it than just that: being close to them...

To be sure it's flirting, I'd look for other signs while holding hands - different eye contact (or lack of because of shyness), different voice, rubbing hands (if any), fingerplay,..

Or just ask whether you could have your hand back later still, or keep his..:-)

it really depends on the circumstance. If its just walking around the mall or walking them to class, then definitely.

If its just for a activity like a game, or reading your palm (if they are into that), then it isn't flirting at all.
