Is constantly rubbing one's hands together a nervous tic?

Is constantly rubbing one's hands together a nervous tic? I notice that when I'm with this guy he'd get very fidgety, at times he would just play with his fingers and other times, when he seems more on edge, he would start rubbing his hands together like excessively. And it's not because of the weather. We're indoors then.

When he was talking to me the other day, he was looking at my lips and then back at my eyes and repeating that for a few times. We were seated next to each other and he'd turn his head to look at my side profile when I'm sorta looking away (but hey peripheral vision). I knew he was looking and didn't wanna 'catch' him so I turned back really slowly and acted unaware.

Yes that is him being nervous around you

Yup! I do stuff my hands when I'm nervous, holding them, interlocking my fingers and stuff like that

Is that due to your attraction for a girl?

Yeah, if I'm talking to a girl I think is attractive, I might subconsciously start doing that. I also do it when I'm just generally nervous about something

In that case, what can a girl do to make you less nervous? In my case, the guy's pretty mature and has advanced degrees but would babble on at times and later apologise for that? I just want him to be more at ease with me.

If I'm honest, from my experience there isn't much you can do to make a guy less nervous from your presence at first if he finds you attractive. Just talk to him often, and show him you're interested and I'm sure he'll warm up to you

Haha but not like that.. in a sorta awkward fashion like he is trying to work off his nervous energy. I wanna make him comfortable around me cause it's hard to open up when he's feeling this way. It rubs off on me too..

I see. What can I do to make him less nervous? He'd try so hard to say something funny and when doing so, it can be quite forced and I don't think he's entirely comfortable then. He'd try hard to tease me and get me to smile (which is really sweet), but there are times I just want him to chill. I think I've told him to chill a couple times (that was before I realise how nervous I make him). The only times that happens is when I get him to talk about himself - that's when he's way more normal around me.

If you ask me I'd just ask him. "hey, I notice you're nervous around me. You okay?". Figure out why he's like that. Ask him, not me. It's him you're trying to calm down, not me lol. Sounds to me he likes you though. Like, like likes you.
