Why is my male boss awkward/nervous around me?

My boss seems to struggle with keeping eye contact when he talks to me. He is also more calm, and his voice is quieter. He isn't as loud or outgoing and seems to change when he speaks to me or is around me. With everyone else he laughs with them and jokes and tells them stories and is open and engaged. It is awkward with me though and he acts completely different. We had to go on a business trip together and orginally he planned to take me into town so I could experience it and then said he couldn't. Our last night of the trip we did have dinner and watched football but for the most part he avoided me during the trip after our work activities were over. With everyone else he is outgoing and has no problem taking them to lunch or making conversation amd getting to know them beyond work. Occasionally I've wondered if he doesn't like me but then he'll say I don't know what I'd do without you if I do something at work that he is happy about! So I know he likes my work ethic but maybe just not me personally? Thoughts?
