Why is my male coworker so awkward around me?

So a coworker I work with (he is a doctor (50M) and I’m a tech (28F) in the same department) will only talk to me when other people are around. When other people are around he talks to pretty much only me and not the other people. He talks to me A LOT. I feel like there is chemistry between us when we are talking and making eye contact, but maybe I’m the only one who feels that way lol. He’s made a few comments that are flirty, and talks my ear off all day when there are other people around. We talk about a bunch of different stuff and I feel like he goes out of his way to seek me out and talk solely to me. But when it’s just him and I we don’t really speak? And when we do it’s so awkward. Like on weekends we both work together and it’s only us and he tries to make small talk but it’s just extremely awkward so mostly just says hello and goodbye. It’s so confusing. I’m starting to think he dislikes me?

He’s being careful because he doesn’t want other people to see he’s talking with you. He might have a crush but he’s holding back due to the work environment issue and he may you are not attainable due to the age difference.

If he’s your boss, there’s a reason for that. A male boss should never have conversations with a female subordinate alone. There should always be someone else present, to avoid sexual harassment law suits.
