Sounds like he likes you and you keep trying to break up with him so he's stressed about doing something wrong. If he was 'setting the pace' and being himself and that made you want a break, obviously he doesn't want to keep doing the same wrong thing and lose you. Seems obvious.

It's not being feminine. It's called deeply caring. He cares for you. Is emotional over you. And loyal too. He don't want to hurt your feelings and that's why he's giving you freedom. He is afraid that you might leave him and that's why all that crying and begging. You should appreciate that. And comfort him by assuring that you're not going anywhere. And tell him to be himself. Communication is the key to any relationship. So if you've any problem just talk to him.
