I'm a man who DOES protect women - because in my opinion that is a responsibility that all men have. And I'm not implying that women are helpless, or can't defend themselves, but if things get physical, the reality is that most women aren't PHYSICALLY able to defend themselves against a man, especially a man who has NO reservations about committing violence towards women, and certainly not multiple men. Also, women have a dangerous habit of allowing themselves to get distracted in potentially dangerous situations - whether that's walking down the street alone and on her phone, or talking with another girl - and loses all situational awareness.

I've had girls I was with targeted by purse snatchers, scam artists, and threatening "panhandlers", and for several years when I worked a later shift, I would make several trips walking women to their cars from the office (as various shifts ended) because they had been accosted or threatened previously.

I've also grabbed several women - including a random woman on the street in Oakland - out of the path of a car that would have run them down. Again, being distracted or lacking situational awareness.

I don't do this because I'm trying to score points - I do it because it's the right thing to do, and I would hope some other man would do that for my mother, sister, nieces, or girlfriends if I wasn't there to do it myself.

When I'm dating a girl, and we're out in public, I always have her on the inside of the sidewalk or closest to the building, fence, etc., and I walk on the outside a half-step behind her. Why? Because any threat to her has to come through me, and I can see and hear them coming. When we go someplace in public, if it's at all sketchy, I have her wait in the car until I come around and open her door, and if we're leaving, I put her in the car first. I don't make any big production about it, but if I'm with her, then in my opinion it's my responsibility to keep her safe.
