It could be that he likes purple... or maybe he just doesn't want to use the red heart because it means "I love you" and he still isn't there.

But a guy sent me a red heart emoji before and I asked if it means he loves me, he said no, it just means he really likes me, that's why maybe he used the emoji instead of saying the ILY word.

But for me I use the red heart emoji quite often, to show my affection.. or if I really like something.. like the heart reaction on Facebook, or like when I'm replying to a girl friend and we said something sweet/caring to each other.

One thing is for sure though, he is really fond of you.

I only know that the Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while service. So, unsure what he means. Maybe he likes the color purple

If he has a military background, the purple heart could be symbolic of being wounded in the line of duty (as the Purple Heart medal symbolizes in our military services.). Maybe he is saying that you have wounded him in your relationship. Of course, if he is unaware of the Purple Heart medal, it probably has some other significance.

The purple heart was originally given out for acts of valor by then Gen. George Washington. This was later adopted by the US armed forces for individuals wounded in combat. So the question becomes have you been committing acts of valor or have you been injured on the battle field of love?
