Does he care about me?

Been dating a guy for 6 months now. He never said he loves me, but he says he cares a lot about me. He is very affectionate and acts like he really cares about me. I'm wondering, does it matter he doesn't ever say he loves or even likes me (but said he cares a lot about me). Should the I care a lot be seen as a way of expressing his feelings for me? I love him so much and would do anything for him.

My boyfriend used to do this thing where he would look me straight in the eyes (you know where time slows) and say "I appreciate you" or "I care for you" or " I really, really like you." Hed follow it with a hair caress or like an extra hug squeeze or hed place my hand on his heart <3

I could tell that he didn't want to say the big L word too soon, and he would even say like, "you know what I mean, I just think another phrase is weighty and shouldn't be tossed around." I think it was around the two month mark that he broke down and said "I love you " in hindsight, we had (have) a super speedy relationship, where we had already been living together for about 2-3 weeks and had been able to get through a couple fights. I know some exes have waited until months 4-5, I don't think 6 months is too uncommon if you guys are both very independent and maybe see each other less than 2 times a week.

We've actually been staying over at each other's places for several weeks at a time on a number of occasions. Not sure if that means anything.

He could be someone who takes a while to profess love.

Some people take longer to say it, but it doesn't mean it isn't there.
