Would a guy who likes a girl avoid her if he felt he embarrassed himself around her?

So I thought both me and this guy (21) had a crush on each other bc he gave obvious signs, but he’s kinda more quiet and nerdy... I thought I’d approach him one day and try to have more conversation since we’ve hardly spoken. I did but I was quiet and nervous, and he kinda stumbled with words and then rambled a little and I got so tongue tied and nervous myself that I couldn’t respond much and just kinda laughed and asked a question and he responded and said something weirdly worded trying to be kinda funny and all I could do was laugh but that’s pretty much it. Since then (a couple days ago) he seems to avoid me? Normally he’d always be around where I was and now he’s more distant. Do you think maybe he feels embarrassed? Or maybe he knows I like him now so he’s distancing himself?

The fact that he was a bit tongue tied, and stumbled with his words I would say is a good sign. I think that may be him not quite knowing how to respond, and the fact that he maybe sensed you liked him, made it harder for him. Him avoiding you, could well be that he's embarrassed and thinks that you don't like him as much anymore. I'd try maybe attempting to hang out with him yourself, rather than hoping he'll come to you. Then just try and act normal and chat to him, this would help him to realise you still like him, and him being a bit awkward didn't turn you off.

His behavior is one of 3 things which I'm sure you know that too Is he gay But still in the closet Is he awkward because he likes someone else or has someone else Perhaps he is scared of the thought of a date as he isn't sure he would be OK and lastly Is he scared of rejection

i usually just get reallt goofy around girls i like... somit about uust getting their attention in general. i would embarrass myself more around someone i really like to be around XD
