He knows that I'm online on Whatsapp at night and will check my 'last seen' every night. Is this normal?

We haven't contacted or met for a year, but I just realised that he has been doing this for the past 2 months. Is this normal for a guy to do that? If so, what is his purpose?

If I am correct, unless proven otherwise, there is no way you can tell someone is specifically checking your 'last seen' on whatsapp, unless you have unofficial version. He might as well been doing his stuff on Whatsapp normally. When someone sets Whatsapps "last seen" to nobody or excludes certain numbers in privacy settings, it still indicates when online to all those who have that number in their whatsapps. The idea which is in your mind "he has been checking" has been triggered by you thinking about him, lets call a spade a spade girl, you still think about him and you would have wanted something more, maybe a relationship though it never happened because of this or that.

Now what if it is, maybe there is an indication he has been checking your statuses or he has been opening a conversation you had with him before (which will show if you are online - not last seen)

It is perfectly normal for one (both genders) to keep checking over one ex, crush, or someone you would have wanted to be with. You too. You are thinking about him don't deny it.

If you want more, text him, maybe he still thinks about you, maybe he's waiting, sometimes it's hard for us men, when you can't read the signs, can't tell a lady was playing hard to get or she's wasn't interested, or you messed up.

If not, this does not mean you can't get over each other.

Patience, and at some point, you'll get bored of this activity and look for other ways to keep yourself occupied. Time heals everything.

He's probably genuinely interested in what's going on with you especially if your up at night posting and he is up during the day and goes out of his way to check you out at night. He might be to shy or lacking confidence to message you?
