Why does my guy friend always kiss my best friends ass?

I have 2 best friends my guy friend and my best girl friend. My guy friend has a huge crush on her I’m not denying that, however as a whole he's much closer to me.. we share everything I’m super comfortable around him and he does as well. In a way I think he does have a thing for me too but completely different; I feel as if he had the chance I’d be his friends with benefits. He’s always talking with me how much he loves my best friend how gorgeous she is how he’s her soulmate and hurts me honestly to know that he thinks of someone he doesn’t talk with that much as someone he wants to marry and be with. I don’t really like him in that way that but doesn’t mean I don’t get ‘jealous’. What bothers me the most however is I’ll be going through something rough and he’ll brush it off as ‘you’ll get through it’ but if she has the slightest inconvenience he’s always at her back and call ready to make her happy or help her. I’m not sure whether or not to confront him about this without making it awkward. I don’t really want to distance myself from him either as he’s such a huge part of my life at this point. It’s just getting to me too much to keep ignoring and I really need some advice
