When a girl likes a guy (but he doesn't feel the same)?

A guy I went to school with hit me up on FB almost three years ago. NEVER in that three years he start a relationship of any kind other than sort of a "friends with benefits" thing that stopped and restarted again last year.
My question is this...
He knows how I feel about him and said he doesn't know if he ever wants to be in a relationship again with anyone for the foreseeable future. So if a guy you're in love with makes comments that would imply being in each others' lives forever yet suddenly starts keeping you at two arms distance and starts making you feel like he doesn't even LIKE you anymore much less loves you. Why do they do that as soon as they know or have confirmed your feelings? I'm hurting and feeling like this is about to draw to a close and I am beside myself with grief. I wanna understand, so HELP!

Yeah, I get that, but it happened suddenly and recently. AND I'm not to think that a guy likes me and wants to be with me unless he SAYS he does. So if he's nice, or wants to hang out, or is affectionate (not sex, just affection) I'm not gonna think he likes me Moore or wasn't to be with me. He needs to actually SAY it for me to think that.

Grieve and move on. I get unrequited love sucks but it happens sometimes. You would rather be alone than in a one-sided situationship. Move on and live a happy life. Focus on things that you love. Get out of your own way and someone who will reciprocate the love will come your way.
