What do I do to fix something I don’t want to be awkward?

There is a guy my fiancé works with & I just met him this week when we were volunteering together. I said something that offended him & he said he doesn’t like that I said that towards him. In that moment I apologized & said I didn’t mean to offend him. He left as he was upset so I gave him some space. After about an hour I went over to help him & the rest of the day when we would talk he kept abnormally mentioning my fiancé. & it felt weird on my side he seemed like he was trying to be cautious around me but acted like nothing happened.
What do I do? I already apologized is there any way to fix it, I don’t want to make it awkward as my fiancé works with him? Is he over it?

I'm sorry, but I'm having a real tough time buying this. Most men are not that easily offended. I have never witnessed or heard of any dude being that upset about something like that.
