I think I would need to know what you said and he replied really. It could be he just read it and felt like he should acknowledge you to be polite. Lots of people I know sometimes just reply with 👍 which I think is rude but I spoke to one friend who uses it all the time and they said they just thought of it as a polite thing 🤷
