You're describing me - I might be an asshole but my friends know I'm a good person at heart - I don't know how much he likes you but definitely does (I'm thinking about the fact that one on one I'm usually a good person especially with girls, degree varies definitely depending on how much I like her though)

Check if he's gentle with other girls. What about other attractive girls? If he's not as nice to them, he is favoring you. That almost always means he likes you to some extent.
