What does it mean when you ask a guy out and his reply is "I'll reply when you're sober'

obviously he thought my friend was drunk when she asked. regardless, if he didn't want to go out with her wouldn't he just say no (even if he thought she was drunk)?

in other words, does it mean that he would say yes, but he wants to make sure she's sober when he does?

I think that he might've said that because maybe he thought she was with friends and maybe they were trying to make a joke about it? since they were drunk he probably just wanted to make sure she wasn't just saying random things, but I think he probably does like her, he just didn't want to be made a fool out of if she says the next day 'oh sorry I didn't know what I was saying I was drunk'.
