I have this friend, we're really close,
Tho at time when I text him he wouldn't reply, even tho he'd be online and posting stuff on his status on Whatsapp,
I decided to ask him why he doesn't reply, and he said l, he does it so it would look like he has a lot of unread messages,

Just express to him that he’s being incredibly weird and usually people send people messages so they can read them and respond. Not so they can just sit there unread.

i would say i would not take it personally and maybe just give him time to be alone too. i am not sure i have had a friend like that but i would give him time.
