I don’t know how to read him. Help?

meet this guy. Polite and caring towards me. Compliments and check ups when I’m sick. Sometimes he likes to ask questions like my likes and what I am doing. However should I do the same he ain’t about it. He won’t accept my gifts, or questions about his likes, even a simple how are you doing (he leaves on read). well now he offered to cook for me because so I offered to bring wine or cool drink he just didn’t entertain that. He is Chinese (maybe this may give some context, I have read that accepting in Chinese culture is seen as being impolite). But am I missing something here?

Honestly I do know why he does that. Even my boyfriend does thatand I'm sure many men out there do that too but I think they have this thing where if we are happy, they're also happy
