it's eye contact not contact just.
Not so much but here in Japan, it's considered very rude to do that:

Yet I've spent enough time in the US that I've learned to become used to it when speaking to people outside of Japan.
When I first went to the US, I had a very difficult time though. Some people even thought I must be a dishonest person because I didn't look them in the eye. Yet that's just Japanese etiquette and custom. We are encouraged not to make prolonged eye contact.
