Why is he bothered about who I am with?

I have a male friend who is one of the closest people in my life. He split up with his ex around a year ago even though, technically, they were never good together (she cheated and gaslighted him constantly). I told him I had a crush on him a few weeks ago and he never really said much so I worked on getting over it to keep our friendship and once I felt I had I told him he was now safe from my affections. The next day he tells me he is confused and is thinking about getting back with his ex. We spoke and I said if it was what he really wanted I would support him.

Last few days I have noticed him ask me things he hasn't in the past. Like I went out and sent a pic of the cocktails we were having as they looked fun. I was asked who the other one was for? Then the next day when I said I was going out for lunch he wanted to know who with and he'll make jokes about if I plan on sleeping with them etc. I know it's banter but it isn't his usual banter. Why is he bothered all of a sudden?

I am confused about what he is doing, I moved on from my crush but this is wrecking my head.
