Why is my ex still talking to me after he found out I have a new boyfriend?

Okay so he doesn't flirt with me, occasionally I catch him looking at me. But he trys to find the littles things to talk to me. Like for example he called me just to tell me that we were going in a different room when their were multiple people in our class their, sometimes he finds ways to be around me? I also saw him talking to the girl he cheat on me with. Out of all these attempts of his I don't respond much and I try to distance myself. Why does he do this?
