Why do men always think that when a woman smiles at them, that they are flirting?

Because you showed them attention and you are probably hot and they invision themselves with you.
Guys are like that, or most guys are.
It isn't often that we get approached, so we don't know what to do.
When I moved from the upper midwest to California I was floored when a female came up to me and asked me to dance.
Of course I said yes, and after a few dances we were talking and I asked her why me, and she said you looked like you were having fun, getting into the music, smiling, unlike the " cool" California guys that were striking the correct pose.
Most guys are pretty simple, so given any type of attention we or at least myself, I don't know what to make of it.

Lol, I didn't say all men. But, every man that I have smiled at has. Including a family friend at a funeral. I'm just confused as to why men, like the ones I've encountered, think this way? I'm sure the ones that I have encountered are not the only men who think like this, or am I wrong?

Well in my experience women don’t always smile at men in public unless he’s helping her w something, maybe holding the door open for her so if she randomly smiles you think there’s something there that sparked that smile. So let me ask this. How did you come to this theory? Did you ask the men if they felt you were interested in them after you smiled at them or did they pursue you more?

They pursued more. I smile at everyone. That's just part of who/how I am.

Yes in a way it is what we think because women don’t seem to smile all that much. A lot of women always seem mad, angry at men, angry at whoever. So when you see a girl smile at you specifically it gets you thinking does she like me? What did I do to make her smile? Especially if she’s cute you’re like damn I made her smile she’s hot. Not only that if it’s a man who doesn’t get much play as far as women or who’s never really had a female smile at him he’s new to the game so he interprets it as she likes me. But w you there’s no doubt in my mind you like me w that smile you threw me lol
