Why is my crush acting weird and avoiding me after I told him I like him?

so i told my crush i like him and before we use to talk there and there and we'd share eye contact multiple times. the day i told him i like him he said he kinda knew already. after that he went and told his friends that i like him and they all looked at me and he skipped his next class which he never did to play soccer again. that day he kept looking at me so much. the next day he started acting so different. he won't stand in one place, kept walking away from where i am. he wouldn't even look at me anymore but my friends told me that he looks at me when i have my back turned on him. if im close to him he won't make eye contact with me at all. his friends know that i like him so they make little jokes when im around. thing is that he never gave me a proper response on wether he likes me back or not. he also out of no where started coming in a conversation i have with my friend and coach (we share the same coach) and starts talking to my coach before he leaves to his next class which he also never did. why is he avoiding me and looks at me only when im not looking, and can't stand in the place as me without trying to do something or talking to someone.

If I was that guy I wouldn't do what he does. Whether I liked you or not. Maybe you can invite him for lunch or something where you're alone.

he is never alone now, he tries to avoid me by talking to random kids in the class

it will hurt but i'll know for sure what his feelings are towards me, because he avoids me but still looks at me when im not looking according to my friends

Then why did he tell others on the first day? Usually guys don't do that.
And "I knew already" sounds similar to "I don't care".

thing is, i try to ignore him too, but when i told him "i like u" he said "shitt" right away and then said "i kinda already knew" and i walked away saying "i figured"

I don't know what age he is, it matters.
As an adult I won't do that if I liked you and you said to me " I like u" I'd probably kiss you there. As a 12 year old I may do the shit he does, even if I liked you.

i think he had a girlfriend but it lasted a month i think, also, there were times where he speak to me first out of no where and make convo, its me who usually talked to him first

1) he avoids being in the same spot as me
2) looks at me only when im not looking
3) tries to come into a group convo im in but does not look at me
