Guy asked me to do something together. But is he interested in me or in the activity itself?

As he discovered I play tennis, he asked me to go play together, since he likes playing as well (even though he hasn't played in years, I don't know why), and has reminded me of it multiple times.
We agreed that we will eventually play once (or twice, he added) during the summer.

Since I really like him, I was wondering whether he asked because he is interested IN ME or IN PLAYING (or both). Maybe he just wants to play but has no friends who could play with him and that's why he wants to go play with me so badly that he already reminded me of it like 6 times. Or maybe it's more like an excuse to hang out together.
I really can't figure out, so please tell me your insight.
