Rejected by a guy even when his friends said he loved me?

This man I've been friends with for about 9 months has always flirted with me and Recently he presented me to his family on top of all his friends and co workers and brought me on vacation.
His friends called me 2 weeks ago and said he's definitely into me as they remember when he met me he had given them a call saying how he had met the prettiest girl and a serious contender. Last time I saw him, He started questioning me about what i want in a partner a lot and saying how he knows im searching for something serious right now.

Except , i asked him why he isn't making a move on me and he answered me that he « isn't sure he is having that feeling where he knows he will fall in love but adores me as person and really cares about me »

i was honestly shocked what could have happened here? Everything he did and said to me and friends pointed to exactly the contrary of his statement?
Rejected by a guy even when his friends said he loved me?
