Guy friend keeps telling me he cares about me?

So my guy friend who is also my coworker has been increasingly telling me that even though he acts like he hates me (which it is obvious that he doesn’t) that he truly cares about me. It comes up in random conversations and when we’re being really goofy with each other. I’m not sure if these are mixed signals but it’s very confusing and I’m too big of a wimp to ask him what he really means by that and I doubt he would even tell me. I also do have a major crush on him and maybe he can tell? I’m not sure though
