Why does a guy kiss you then say that he wants to be friends?

I went on a great date with a guy. We have been in touch and he asked me if he was what I expected. He kissed me at the end of the date and said that he had a nice time.

Two weeks later I receive an email saying I'm sorry I will not be able to meet up with you before christmas but hope that we can meet up afterwards as friends.

Why do guys do this? Why did he kiss me if he only wants to be friends?

well maybe he is one of those guys who wants to get drunk and be with girls on christmas eve? but all I know is just hang out with him afterwards and find out. who knows?

you can always kiss him as a friend too.

Why ? I'm curious. a guy did this to me after 4 motnhs of knowing or seeing him. he really is emotionally unavailable and admitted he wasnt over his ex and thta he didn't wanna lead me on and can't offer me more so that he wanted to just be friends. he said he liked where things were going but changed his mind about getting more serious. does that mean he changed his mind about me? or it really was a genral thing and more about him? I hope it ain't personal...

I'm honestly in a similar situation now with one of my exes. it could be an excuse or he can genuinely care about you and not want to hurt you because of his own problems he has to deal with first. I wish I could tell you the answer and make it simple for you because I want to know the same thing in my situation. I can't tell if it's an excuse or she's being genuine. There's no real way to know for sure. You'll have to go with your gut feeling and either try going for him and risk your heart, or
