Why would a guy ask if you want their number then give you a fake number?

Low self esteem, I'd guess. He wanted the thrill of being wanted but did not want to suffer the inevitable rejection when you get to know him better.

Now when I was growing up this didn't really happen that I know of -- a guy who would give a fake number. Some women would give fake numbers to guys & a guy might give a fake number to a fugly woman who hounded him for his number BUT it'd never be him asking her for anything or chasing her.

I'd understand if I asked him but he asked me if I wanted it, it doesn't make sense and feels awful

Next time a guy asks if you want his number... say: Nope. Or "I have a boyfriend" or "I'm married" & keep it moving.

It's when a girls says yes to an Instagram but then I tell her I don't want it anymore. It's not worth our time texting girls if girls are not interested either way. It's going to be a flaked number. Thats why he did it
