My work is toxic. How do I tune out?

That is something that is impossible to do really. It will always be present. Some detail about your work would be helpful for us to give better advice. Do you have your own office, for example?

Needless to say, even if you can seclude yourself from other people reasonably well, you’ll still have to communicate with colleagues that will bring that toxic nature. The only way to truly get rid of it is to look for another job.

I know, that sucks. You may really like your actual job, minus the toxic people. Switching jobs isn’t easy sometimes either. I would say the only real thing you can do other than finding a new job would be address the toxic environment to your superiors.

That is really the only option. Of course, if they are part of that toxic culture, it will do little good. Best of luck to you.

Thank you. I do retail. Every job i have been in the past few years is toxic top to bottom. I dont think i can just joh hop forever hoping one won't be toxic. We can't excape toxic people. Well I can't. Im not counting or betting on it anyway. I am poor. Until i get married and can be a STAHM and wife" pretty sure all jpbs will be toxic

You want my best advice? When you get down because of all that toxic behaviour, think about the day you DO get married and all that can change.

Think about those types of positive things and try your hardest to block out the rest.

That's how retail staff attitude is due to the nature of the work. You just can't avoid it. If you are willing to put the work in to change sectors that might work for you if you have the time and energy.

My personal experience with co-workers in retail has not been great either. It's down to a lack of enjoyment and good atmosphere from the work itself and how management treat the employees.

Do NOT react emotional, mirror their body language, or any thing like that. Speak when spoken too, do quality work, and that's all you can do. You can also look for another while tackling this issue. You can not separate yourself but you can smile when appropriate and have positive energy while not reacting to the crap... Does this make sense?
--It is going to be work at first. Read the term online and trained psychologist can give you better details. It worked on my Dad who is train wreck Narcissist... that's why I know about it.

Thanks man! My parents are narcs too. I escaped them both a while ago. And yes i did gray rocking. I guess its just hard cause its with new relationships now so its difficult to navigate and my livlihood depends on it... Thanks fo the tips very practical
