He used to text back right away like a minute later I understand that isn’t sustainable and sometimes it would be no more than an hour or two later but now he doesn’t respond all day sometimes doesn’t respond till the next afternoon.

He was securing the connection. He is off to his things he has to do. In his mind that situation is in order. Sounds like you are at the start. He could be off to texting and securing connections with other girls he is attracted to interested. He may even have a casual girlfriend too. Be you, and only deal with someone who shows respect, integrity and sincerity.
