Why did you not ask him why he would give you some old trousers? Perhaps that you looked as if you needed better clothing or he wanted to get rid of some excess pants without having to throw them away.
If your clothing size and his are not the same, then giving you some old clothing serves no purpose. Perhaps he wanted you to have a piece of clothing that belonged to him. In this case, it is more of a crush thing he has for you. With his gesture, he is hoping that the crush is reciprocated.
