I wasn’t hungry and my boyfriend was going out to eat with his daughter. I didn’t want to go because I was t hungry and I figured that would give them time together. He came back and left his daughters at the park saying he felt weird and couldn’t eat because he wanted us to all eat together.

You made a very bad move. Daughter think you did not go because of her... no matter what she says etc... It was a traditional Family time. Water and dessert would have been good. I would never do this again?

Because not telling him that makes your objection about you, and how you feel, instead of about giving his daughter a chance to hang out with her dad.

He had a chance to hang out. It made no sense to me that he wouldn’t stay and eat dinner and hang out with his daughters just because I wasn’t there.

Because you didn't tell him that that was your intention. Your behavior implied that you weren't feeling well. So instead of telling him you feel fine and are just a little tired, he's worried about the fact you aren't feeling well.

Communication is a two-way street. It doesn't matter what you intended because if what the person heard doesn't line up with that, the communication failed.

@millyneenee This is a lesson that I've had to learn the hard way so many times that I'm shocked I still screw it up. So I'm being a little hard on you, but just know that I've shoved my foot in my mouth so many times that you could make a feature-length blooper reel about it.
