Guy's Behavior

I am confuse. why he needed to ask me this question when he could of ask his friends?

there is this dude named Omar and he is in my class. he asked me, "do you know braeden?" (and in my head i knew braeden and omar were friends) i answered, "yes. wht about him?" he said, "do u have class w/him?" i answered, "yes." he said, "wht class?" i said, "gov. why u ask?" he said, "braeden said something to me but i dont remember the quest." i said, "oh ok." the next day, i kept on realizing that braeden stares at me a lot.

I am confuse. why he needed to ask me this question when he could of ask his friends?
