Why did he ask my friend and not me if something was wrong?

I am going through a hard time and my friend noticed. He asked one of my other friends If I was OK but he never asked me directly what was wrong. Why? It makes me feel like he doesn't care enough to ask me directly.

There could be couple of reasons why !!!

1. He wants to know what the matter is before jumping to offer advise /help.

2. He didn't want to bother you.

3. He doesn't know how would you react.
