Why do guys put their hands in front of their crotch when they’re standing?

That's why.

I've read somewhere that apparently this a subconscious move that guys do in order to protect the most vulnerable and precious part of our body (according to porn and biology) - the groin. So most guys do it without thinking, as the area is THAT important and is THAT vulnerable to attack. In fact in martial arts, one of the lessons you will get is on proper position and footwork which if you do it right your hips (and the balls) will be facing at angle away from the opponent so they can't hit it.

It's a respectful and natural way to stand. Arms straight at your sides looks awkward and hands behind your back makes you like you're standing at ease in the military. Hand clasped in front of you is much easier.

I have seen my dad doing this. It is a kinda nice gesture. I mean when you put your hands together, that is where your hands stop naturally
