Why did my guy friend suddenly become rude to me?

I've been friends with this guy for like 3 years. We're really close, because apparently, people looking from the outside think we're dating. One of my friends decided to make this known to him one night and he denied it. Ever since then he's been annoyingly rude to me. He keeps making fun of me. He hasn't complemented me on anything (he usually does). He stopped goofing off with me. He stopped physical contact (he used to jokingly lift me up and stuff).

He's kind of become a jackass that's far less fun to hangout with.

WHYY?!?!?! Is it because he likes me? or is he trying to not lead me on by being a douche?

I think he has some self-image issue, and that he doesn't know how to handle things when people tried to tease him about you and him being together. Some guys feels that their pride or ego being threatened when they feel that their feelings for another girl is being exposed publicly (when they rather keep it to themselves). Or it can be that they feel too annoyed or angry when too many people teased or tell others that he's with a girl that he's not. Either ways, you can say that he's overreacting.

However, this DOES NOT give him any reason to treat you in such a way EVER. Even though you guys have been closed together, keep a distance from him because at this point, the more you try to keep in touch with him, the way he treats you (which is likely to not improve) will worsen to the extent that you can't take it. So step away while you can, until he learns to behave like a man and treat others with kindness and respect for whatever reason. Sorry to hear that you've been through this though! Thanks for your insight. I think I'll take your advice and ignore since he seems to be doing that to me (except when he's being a d*ck). But it's really hard for me since he's one of my best friends. I would try talking to him, but it's kind of awkward and he's the type of guy that would brush it aside.

I can understand your dilemma and how you feel. I've been in your position before and I really empathize. It is a difficult and awkward position to be in. If that's how he behaves, I'm afraid there's nothing much you can do to change it and he has to realize that for yourself. It just doesn't sit well with me that he's doing all these at your expense. No friend should ever do that to you. Do yourself a favour and back off for the moment and keep your conversation to the minimal.
